new video courses for 2021
We are excited to introduce our new video courses for 2021! This year we have seven new courses that span from Grades 1–11. Each course is age-appropriate and, above all, is designed to excite a love of learning in your students. For more information about these new courses, see our new 2021 Catalog!

Spelling 1 with Sarah Lawson

Help your children develop effective communication skills with Spelling 1! Through this course, Mrs. Lawson will teach students how to use phonics and patterns in letters and words. This foundation in phonics helps students generalize the spellings of similar words. Mrs. Lawson has created engaging guided activities for practice and application to reinforce the lessons. There are also video segments in “The Spelling Forest” where animated animals help students review their spelling words. Additionally, you can use different scheduling options to expand the thirty word lists to fit 150 to 180 days.

Bible 4 with Debbie Overly

Bible 4 is the first course in our new elementary Bible line. In this new course, Mrs. Overly will show your students how the Old Testament tells a single, connected story. From the foundations in the Old Testament, your children will begin to develop a biblical worldview. Mrs. Overly will teach Bible study skills, foundations for apologetics, and Bible truths. Additional video segments bring the lessons to life and solidify students’ understanding of these important truths.

Reading 4 with Michelle Jarrell

Our new video courses for Reading 4 and 5 now use our reading process approach. These courses are the last to be updated according to use this approach. In Reading 4 Mrs. Jarrell will help guide readers toward comprehension and lifelong reading success. Students will learn reading strategies from a biblical worldview. Students will expand their vocabulary, develop reading comprehension, and explore a variety of genres, all while practicing study skills and applying writing skills. Throughout the lessons, video segments will give students an engaging introduction to performance literature, writing tools, different dramas, and storytelling.

Mrs. Jarrell has created content for three different novel studies: Sarah, Plain, and Tall for low-level readers, Medallion for mid-level readers, and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for high-level readers. You can choose which novel study to use, based on your child’s reading level. Regular lessons from the reader will cover approximately 160 days, but you’ll need to do at least one novel study to fill a 180 day school year. If you would like to complete an additional novel study in your year, you may choose to do so by completing fewer of the regular lessons or by extending your year.

Reading 5 with Kim Pearson

Reading 5 is Mrs. Pearson’s first online course with us! If you would like to connect with her and get to know her better, visit her Facebook page. In Reading 5, Mrs. Pearson cultivates an appreciation for literature by combining engaging selections with rich illustrations. The literature and informational selections help students build reading comprehension while evaluating what they read from a biblical worldview. Mrs. Pearson also uses special segments on writing tools, finding relevant background information, and dramatizations to enhance learning. Like Reading 4, Mrs. Pearson has created content for three leveled novel studies. The novels your child can study are Misty of Chincoteague for low-level readers, Brady for mid-level readers, and The Horse and His Boy for high-level readers.

Physical Science with Bill Harmon

This video course of Physical Science has a significant and exciting update! Mr. Harmon will show students how everything they do relates to chemistry and physics. It offers exciting real-world examples and applications in order to connect science to your students’ lives. Chemistry and physics sections explore key concepts for future study. Mr. Harmon teaches students about the structure of matter, changes in matter, how matter moves, as well as waves and energy. He will also use engaging segments to introduce chapters as well as animated diagrams to support understanding.

World History with Cynthia Bullock

Mrs. Bullock will guide your students through the story of history, starting at Creation and continuing to the present. In addition there are specific studies on Africa, Asia, and the precolonial Americas. She will trace major themes in history, including government formations, economics, and geographic and religious influences, from a biblical perspective. Mrs. Bullock will teach your students to see how the past impacts their lives today. Additional video segments like “Awesomeness Report” or “Virtual Tours” bring history to life for your students. These segments cover things like world events, cultural topics, and tours of famous places.

English 11 with Beth Cofer

English 11 is Mrs. Cofer’s first video course with BJU Press! We are excited for you to meet her. You can learn more about her and interact with her on Facebook. Her course English 11 is a yearlong course that covers both American Literature and Writing & Grammar 11 every day. Lessons will focus primarily on literature and writing. There will also be regular review of key grammar concepts.

Mrs. Cofer will include projects to develop written communication skills as well as reference and study skills. In the American Literature lessons, Mrs. Cofer will introduce students to a variety of new authors and genres. Additionally, students will use the reading process approach to practice high-level reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills. English 11 is the first of the new high school level literature video courses to use this approach. Video segments introduce the topics covered in each unit, explore the authors’ lives, and provide dramatizations of literary excerpts.

These courses will be available on our online format beginning July 1, and DVD availability begins August 1.

Each of these new video courses has been carefully developed to serve you and meet your needs. We can’t wait for you and your children to experience them! What course are you looking forward to?

We just released new textbooks for Bible 2, but the video courses may take some time to get updated. But a parent-led subject kit for Bible 2 will be available in February.
